The development at Rotsee In order to ensure rowing in Lucerne also has a strong future, in recent years the rowing infrastructure has been modernized in line with the unique natural and recreational area on the Rotsee with a budget of CHF 16 million. The LUCERNE REGATTA ASSOCIATION and the LUCERNE REGATTA guarantee first-class rowing infrastructure in the middle of a nature reserve and recreation area.
The development on the Rotsee has not escaped the World Rowing Federation FISA. The FISA then awarded the European Rowing Championships 2019 at Lucerne. (May 31 – June 2, 2019)
The Rowing European Championships are organized by the LUCERNE REGATTA ASSOCIATION, the organizing committee of the LUCERNE REGATTA togheter with the Swiss Rowing Association. It has been organizing rowing regattas in Lucerne since 1903 and organizes the annual LUCERNE REGATTA on the Rotsee. The LUCERNE REGATTA will not take place for the first time in 2019, but the Rotsee will be the venue of the European Rowing Championships. The Organising Committee comprises of former top athletes, passionated rowers and rowing enthusiasts. We’re putting in a lot of effort and enthusiasm to offer you an unforgettable event!
The town, the lake, the mountains. Lucerne is the 7th biggest city in Switzerland. 436 m above sea level – 84000 inhabitants – Swiss German is the native language, but English is widely spoken. Lucerne welcomes tourists and guests from all over the world each year. The town has a number of Top Events each year – the LUCERNE REGATTA with its tradition since 1903 is Lucerne’s major sport event each summer.
Nature Arena Rotsee
The Rotsee is located a very short distance from the town of Lucerne and is reached by foot or by public transport. It is not only a world-class international regatta course, but also a nature reserve. Known for its calm waters, rowers and coaches from all over the world, are looking forward to race on this small but famous lake. Lucerne traditionally hosts the final round of the World Rowing Cup series each year.
